Here's How 5 Rutgers Couples Celebrated Their Weddings with Us

Hurricane Productions is proudly tied to the Rutgers University community. Our founders, Vincent and Strato, both graduated from Rutgers, as did many of our staff. Since then, we’ve continued to work various athletic and student events at the school every year, including the annual Rutgers Dance Marathon.

Because of our connection to the university, many couples who attended RU know about Hurricane and reach out to book us for their weddings. Below, we share the stories of a few recent Rutgers couples who invited us to be a part of their special day.

Rutgers couples who celebrated with Hurricane Productions

Monica & Michael

Monica and Michael watched their dream rustic wedding come to life at Waterloo Village in Stanhope, NJ. With our Spotlight Entertainment Package, the couple received DJ and MC entertainment and customized intelligent spotlighting for their reception. They also added on a wireless sound system for their ceremony and hired us for full-day videography coverage, which included a 60 to 90-minute wedding film and a three to five-minute highlight video (perfect for sharing on social media!).

Amanda & Ryan

To capture their wedding day at The Bridgewater Manor in Bridgewater, NJ, Amanda and Ryan opted for our full-day video package with two videographers. Our team worked directly with the couple to ensure their feature-length edit and highlight video encompassed all aspects of their wedding day, from the anticipatory moments before the ceremony to the final dance of the evening.

Christine & Tim

Christine and Tim celebrated their wedding at The Hamilton Manor in Hamilton Township, NJ, where Hurricane Productions provided ceremony sound and DJ/MC entertainment for the reception. With our full-day wedding videography package, all of the couple’s special moments were recorded throughout the day and turned into a gorgeous wedding film and highlight video.

Corrine & Jovi

Corrine and Jovi celebrated their wedding at the gorgeous Molly Pitcher Inn in Red Bank, NJ. Overlooking the Navesink River, the hotel and event venue offered the perfect backdrop scenery for wedding photos. Hurricane Productions captured elegant pictures of the entire celebration through our full-day photography package, as well as a three to five-minute highlight video through our Short Movie package. Corrine and Jovi also booked our Request Entertainment Package with an intelligent spotlighting upgrade and wireless ceremony sound.

Brittany & Shawn

Brittany and Shawn’s wedding guests didn’t know they were attending a wedding; they thought they were gathering for the couple’s engagement party at Rutgers Gardens. We were, of course, in on the plan, so when the couple booked our Turntable entertainment package, full-day photography and Short Movie package, we made sure to capture and celebrate the surprise and excitement of each guest. It’s not every day we get to help a couple throw a surprise wedding, and this one definitely went down in the books!

5 Amazing Locations for Your New Jersey Engagement Photo Shoot

One of the most exciting parts of getting engaged is planning an engagement photo shoot. Most couples use these photos for their save-the-date cards and wedding websites. However, it's also a great opportunity to practice working with a photographer and getting comfortable in front of the camera before your big day.

Before you book your engagement photographer, you'll need to decide where you want to shoot. While you can do an indoor photo shoot, an outdoor setting with lots of natural light and vibrant colors is often best for these types of photos. If you're looking for the perfect backdrop for your New Jersey engagement photo shoot, here are a few popular locations that many couples choose:

1. The beach

If you live near the Jersey Shore, why not plan a photo shoot on at your favorite beach? The crashing ocean waves and the sand beneath your toes set a romantic mood for your early morning or sunset photo session. Plan your engagement shoot for the off-season if you want to avoid the summer beach crowds.

2. Wineries

Wineries aren't just for your bachelorette weekend -- they're also the perfect place to take engagement photos! Take breathtaking pictures in the scenic vineyards, then stop in for a wine tasting after your session. Cape May Winery in Cape May, Laurita Winery in New Egypt, and Unionville Vineyards in Ringoes are all great choices.

3. The boardwalk

Few things are more lively and exciting than the boardwalk of a shore town. Many New Jersey couples have nostalgic memories of family vacations and fun evenings at Point Pleasant, Seaside Heights, Asbury Park, Pier Village, Atlantic City and other Jersey Shore boardwalks. Think of all the adorable moments your engagement photographer can capture as you play games, share an ice cream cone, or cuddle up on a boardwalk bench!

4. State parks

If you're looking for a rustic, woodsy feel to your engagement photos, try one of New Jersey's many beautiful state parks. Walk the trails with your sweetie and let your photographer work their magic. Some good options include Allaire State Park (Wall Township), Cheesequake State Park (Old Bridge), Hacklebarney State Park (Long Valley/Chester), and Liberty State Park (Jersey City).

5. Botanical gardens/arboretums

What better place to take photos in The Garden State than a beautiful botanical garden? For central New Jersey couples, Rutgers Gardens in New Brunswick and Deep Cut Gardens in Middletown are extremely popular engagement shoot locations with plenty of gorgeous backdrops and natural settings to choose from. Other gorgeous gardens include the New Jersey State Botanical Gardens (Ringwood), Brookdale Park Rose Garden (Bloomfield/Montclair), and Frelinghuysen Arboretum (Morristown).

Other unique New Jersey engagement photo shoot locations

Not into the idea of a beach, garden, or state park? There are plenty of other incredible and unique places in New Jersey to take your engagement pictures. Try one of these unique photo shoot locations:

  • Local farms - Perona Farms, Duke Farms, Demarest Farms
  • Historical villages - Waterloo Village, Fort Lee Historic Park, Batsto Village
  • Sculpture gardens - Grounds for Sculpture, Wildflower Sculpture Park, Clifton Arts Center & Sculpture Park
  • University campuses - Princeton University, Monmouth University, Rowan University
  • Mountain views - Mountain Creek Resort, Neshanic Valley Golf Course, Delaware Water Gap

No matter where you choose to have your photo shoot, you're sure to find a picture-perfect location in our home state of New Jersey. If you're shooting in a public place, be sure to check local regulations to find out if you need to reserve your shoot and/or secure a permit before taking photos there.

Kristel's Sweet 16 - Forsgate Country Club

Kristel's Blue and Gold Forsgate Country Club Sweet 16

There were clouds on the dance floor and magic in the air at Kristel's Forsgate Country Club Sweet 16.

The birthday girl's family and friends gathered at this sophisticated Monroe Township venue to celebrate her special day. The ballroom was decked out in royal blue and gold for the occasion. Everything in the room was perfectly coordinated, from the balloons and table decorations, to the fondant-covered birthday cake, to Kristel's two elegant gowns.

Kristel's family booked Hurricane Productions' Sweet 16 Media Package, which includes all of our bundled media and entertainment services. Kristel received DJ and MC entertainment by Nate Hawley and Robbie Padovano. Our director of operations, Nick Nittoli, designed custom spotlighting, dance lighting, and uplighting for the ballroom, as well as a personalized graphic displayed on two LED TV screens.

As part of Kristel's package, photographer Ashley Szymczyk and videographer Tyler Ajamian captured every moment of her Forsgate Country Club Sweet 16. She also received Instagram streaming, a custom Snapchat geofilter, and a photo booth for guests to enjoy.

To make her evening even more special, Kristel's family added on our "Dancing on the Clouds" upgrade. Using a dry ice fog machine, Hurricane Productions created a magical atmosphere on the dance floor during Kristel's 16 Roses ceremony, where she received a rose and danced with the most important men in her life.

Throughout the planning process, Kristel had access to our convenient online planner, which allowed her and her family to manage all of their service packages and music requests in one place.

Tara and Gary - The Olde Mill Inn

Tara and Gary's Olde Mill Inn Wedding Photos

Tara and Gary's wedding was a day filled with love and happiness. The couple held their ceremony and reception at The Olde Mill Inn, a historical Basking Ridge venue that dates back to the 18th century. With its elegant ballroom, stone architecture, and gorgeous grounds, the Inn provided the perfect backdrop for the newlyweds' wedding photos.

The couple hired Hurricane Productions' Corynn Egreczky to capture their Olde Mill Inn wedding photos. She provided full-day coverage and documented the wedding party preparations, the ceremony, the reception, and portraits of the couple and their loved ones.

The new Mr. and Mrs. also booked Hurricane's Spotlight Entertainment Package for their reception. DJ Alvin Gay and MC Robbie Padovano kept guests on the dance floor throughout the evening. Tara and Gary upgraded their package with a ceremony sound system, full ballroom uplighting, and LED screens with a photo montage and custom animation.

Hurricane Productions offers a full suite of media and entertainment services for your wedding day. Check out our pricing page or request a quote for more details on our all-inclusive packages.

Case Study: Rutgers University, DJ Nate Hawley

Want to take your sporting event entertainment to the next level? Don't hire just any DJ -- get the official DJ of Rutgers Football!

Meet Hurricane Productions' Nate Hawley, the go-to DJ for Rutgers Athletics. Whenever there's a football game, wrestling match, or gymnastics meet at RU, you're almost certain to find Nate behind the DJ booth.

University Football DJ

Nate first connected with Hurricane Productions after attending a Rutgers event the company had produced. His lifelong passion for music and DJing propelled him to reach out and ask how he could get involved. With a strong interest in being a college sports event DJ, Hurricane gave then-sophomore Nate his first Rutgers DJ opportunity in 2014. Within a couple of years, Nate became known as the “Official DJ of Rutgers Football.”

Since then, his skills as a professional DJ and MC have only improved.

"My music library and knowledge has grown and my mixing is no longer tied to a specific genre," he says. "I’m comfortable with any crowd and I can now use the mic without stumbling through announcements

While Nate is best known for entertaining crowds on game day, he's so much more than the Rutgers Football DJ. He's also one of our most popular private event entertainers. Whether he's working solo or as part of a DJ-MC team, Nate will curate the perfect playlist for you and your guests while delivering the professionalism you expect.

Monica and Michael - Waterloo Village - Stanhope, NJ

Monica and Michael's Waterloo Village wedding video

New Jersey couples who want a rustic wedding often choose Waterloo Village, a 19th century canal town in Stanhope, NJ. This gorgeous venue is brimming with both history and charm, and provides the perfect backdrop for romantic photos and videos.

Monica and Michael experienced the magic of Waterloo Village firsthand during their spring wedding. The newlyweds hired Hurricane Productions to provide entertainment and videography services for their big day. They chose our Spotlight Entertainment Package, which included entertainment by DJ Alvin Gay and MC Robbie Padovano, and customized intelligent spotlighting. As an add-on to their package, Hurricane also set up a wireless sound system for the ceremony.

To create their Waterloo Village wedding video, Monica and Michael hired Hurricane's Phil Shvartsman and Tyler Ajamian for full-day videography coverage. NJCU Athletic Awards 2019: How We Transformed a Gym for an Awards Gala

Lots of universities hold their student award ceremonies on campus in a theater or gymnasium. Event organizers will often dress up these on-campus spaces with a few balloons, banners, and plastic tablecloths in the university colors. At NJCU, they fully transformed their gym into a sophisticated event venue worthy of any awards gala.

On May 6, 2019, New Jersey City University held its annual Athletic Awards Banquet. This "feel good" event celebrates a growing community of student athletes, administrators, and families, and highlights the athletic achievements of NJCU's Gothic Knights.

The banquet was held in the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) -- but you'd never have known it. This 2,000-seat sports arena is normally set up for NJCU basketball and volleyball games. On the night of the Awards Banquet, though, it was nearly unrecognizable as a gymnasium.

Hurricane Productions and its sister brands MediaCutlet and CaneAV worked with NJCU's Athletic Administration to transform the facility into a fully functional ceremony space, complete with a custom-designed stage, lighting, and audio services.

Stage design

We set up a temporary stage in the JMAC arena as the focal point of the banquet. Black pipe-and-drape panels extended across most of the gymnasium floor to create the back of the stage. We also carefully arranged white cardboard boxes along the back "wall" for a unique visual element, as well as to pick up the stage lighting.

Lighting and effects

Every stage setup needs lighting, so we lined the front and back of the stage with uplighting to make sure everything and everyone on stage looked great. The green lighting matched NJCU's primary school color, and our synced lighting created an exciting atmosphere for the presenters and attendees.

Audio equipment

Hurricane provided a full audio system for the banquet, including speakers and microphones for the presenters.

With our extensive experience designing athletic events for Rutgers University, we felt confident in our ability to bring NJCU's vision for the Awards Banquet to life. Check out the finished product, including "before" shots, in our video from the event:

Rylee's Sweet 16 - Razberry's Banquet Center

Rylee's Sweet 16 at Razberry's

Rylee celebrated her Sweet 16 at Razberry's Banquet Center, an elegant Hunterdon County event venue located in Frenchtown. The ballroom was decked out in royal blue for Rylee's special night, from the table settings to the birthday girl's gorgeous gown.

Hurricane Productions provided entertainment and photography services for the evening. Our photographer, Corynn Egreczky took portraits of Rylee, her family, and her court on the grounds at Razberry's Banquet Center. The venue's gazebo and water fountain provided a beautiful backdrop for outdoor shots, while the lobby served as the perfect spot for indoor photos.

During Rylee's celebration, MC Robbie Padovano entertained the crowd with giant glow sticks and a dry ice cannon. Hurricane set up intelligent spotlighting and royal blue uplighting to match the event color scheme. We also designed a personalized graphic for Rylee and displayed it on two LED TV screens on the dance floor. As an add-on service, Rylee and her guests enjoyed the use of an attended photo booth throughout the evening.

Hurricane Productions offers all-inclusive media and entertainment packages for Sweet 16s, Quinceañeras, and Mitzvahs. Check out our pricing page for more details, or contact us to request a quote.

Picturesque Spring Wedding Venues in New Jersey

It's not hard to see why springtime marks the beginning of wedding season. When you're surrounded by blooming flowers and lush greenery around every corner, spring wedding photos can be exceptionally gorgeous. Plus, outdoor photo shoots are much more pleasant before New Jersey's humid summer heat kicks in!

If you're planning a spring wedding in the Garden State, you've got a lot of options for gorgeous venues. No matter where in New Jersey you live, there's a nearby location with the perfect backdrop for your big day. Here are five of our favorite NJ spring wedding venues.

Rutgers Gardens (New Brunswick)

Many Hurricane staffers are Rutgers University alumni. As a result, we work with a lot of couples who met during their time at RU. If you and your sweetheart are Scarlet Knights, what better place to get married than the place you fell in love? Located on the Rutgers-New Brunswick Campus, Rutgers Gardens hosts wedding outdoor ceremonies and receptions throughout the year. Whether you choose the Roy DeBoer Evergreen Garden or the Art Rudolph Sun and Shade Garden, your wedding photos will be filled with stunning florals and greenery.

Shadowbrook (Shrewsbury, NJ)

Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury is an incredible venue for any time of year, but a spring wedding at this historical Monmouth County estate lets you take full advantage of its 18-plus acres of natural beauty. After you travel up the maple tree-lined drive to the property, you'll find an elegant, historical mansion, an outdoor ceremony space with rows of gorgeous flowers, and countless opportunities for photos and videos in front of the venue's flawless landscaping.

The Spring Lake Manor (Spring Lake, NJ)

This beautiful wedding venue dates back to 1901 and was recently renovated to "preserve its unique character." In addition to its elegant exterior, Spring Lake Manor features a private outdoor courtyard with a fountain and a brick waterfall out front. Want beach photos, too? The Manor is just a few short blocks from the shore.

Clarks Landing (Point Pleasant)

Clarks Landing is one of our favorite Jersey Shore wedding venues. You can have your outdoor ceremony overlooking the Manasquan River, and then head out to the docks for a romantic photo shoot. Even if the weather isn't ideal for outdoor photos, Clarks Landing offers some amazing indoor shots:. Its Grand Ballroom has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the water.

The Water Witch Club (Highlands)

If you want the best of New Jersey's outdoor views in one location, look no further than the exclusive Water Witch Club. Situated on one of the highest points of the eastern seaboard, this one-of-a-kind venue is surrounded by the Sandy Hook bay, the Atlantic Ocean, and the New York City skyline. The Water Witch Club's official event season runs from April through October, so if you want to book one of its limited spring wedding weekends, you won't want to delay.

What Is the Appropriate Amount to Tip My Wedding Vendors?

Your DJ has just played the final song of the evening at your wedding reception. Your guests are all getting ready to head home (or to the afterparty!), but before you follow them out, you decide to make the rounds and thank your vendors with a tip.

While wedding vendor tipping is never required, it is often customary in the service industry (and always appreciated). If you loved your DJ, photographer, videographer, or anyone else who helped coordinate your wedding, it's kind and classy to show your gratitude with a small bonus for a job well done.

With so many different wedding expenses, it can be tricky to determine the right amount to give each of your vendors. Follow this handy guide to help you figure out the appropriate tips for your various wedding service providers.

Wedding vendor tipping: What do most people give?

Most wedding vendor tipping standards are based on a percentage of your contract amount. If you decide to follow these guidelines, it's a good idea to have all the numbers in front of you a few weeks before your big day so you can calculate and prepare your tips ahead of time. You'll also want to review your wedding contracts carefully to see if a gratuity was already built into the final price. This is common for transportation services and wedding venues (a service charge is typically included to cover the tips for your wait staff), but not for other types of vendors.

Wedding reception staff

  • Amount: 15 to 20 percent of the contract, if gratuity was not included
  • When to tip: At the end of your reception, usually handed to the maître d'

Wedding officiant

  • Amount: $100, or a donation to their church (if applicable)
  • When to tip: At the rehearsal dinner (if present) or after the ceremony

DJ or band

  • Amount: $100 to $200 per entertainer, or 15 to 20 percent of the contract
  • When to tip: At the end of the reception

Photographer

  • Amount: $100 to $200 per photographer
  • When to tip: At the end of the reception

Videographer

  • Amount: $100 to $200 per videographer
  • When to tip: At the end of the reception

Limo/transportation

  • Amount: Around 15 percent of the contract, if gratuity was not included
  • When to tip: At the end of the evening when they drop you off

Other wedding vendors you may want to tip include your hair stylist, makeup artist, delivery drivers for your flowers or wedding cake, wedding planner, and bartenders (if their tip wasn't included in your catering contract).

How to present a tip to your wedding vendor

Traditionally, wedding vendor tips are given in cash, enclosed in an envelope. Often, one of the couple's parents or someone in the wedding party is responsible for delivering the tip, so the newlyweds don't have to worry about it at the end of the evening. However, some couples prefer to give the tip themselves so they can chat with their vendors and thank them personally.

Don't want to carry around envelopes of cash all night? Some vendors, including Hurricane Productions, will gladly go digital and accept tips through services like Venmo or PayPal. You'll definitely want to confirm that other vendor accept electronic tips, but if they do, it can be an excellent alternative to the awkward envelope hand-off. Sending a tip quickly and securely through your phone means you never have to worry about misplacing the tip envelopes or giving the wrong tip to the wrong vendor.

Your wedding day team takes pride in their work and wants to ensure that you and your guests have an amazing experience. If they've delivered that, let them know it and say thanks with a tip (and a smile!).

If your budget is tight and you can't afford a big tip, you can also express your appreciation through a handwritten or emailed thank-you note and/dor positive online review of the vendor. This can go a long way and even encourage new business, so feel free to tell the world if you loved your wedding staff.

Hurricane Productions offers a full suite of wedding day services, including DJ entertainment, photography, and videography. Visit our pricing page for package details, or request a quote for your event.

Hosting an Engagement Party? Here's Why You Should Hire a DJ

So you just got engaged. Before you and your fiance get into serious wedding planning mode, you decide you want to throw an engagement party to celebrate the happy news with your closest friends and family.

Although engagement parties are usually more low-key and informal than the wedding itself, there's still a lot of planning that goes into it. Depending on your budget, you may be thinking about what to do for entertainment to ensure your guests have a great time.

Hurricane Productions offers DJ and MC entertainment services for all special occasions, including engagement parties. If you're about to start planning yours, here are a few good reasons to consider booking a DJ for an engagement party.

Your guests will enjoy live entertainment.

If you're hosting your engagement party at a private venue or banquet hall, you'll probably want some background music while your guests enjoy brunch, lunch, or dinner with you. Sure, you can make a Spotify playlist and hook up a speaker, but a DJ will be able to take requests and mix in real time, creating a unique experience for your guests. DJs are also generally more affordable than live musicians or bands, which are popular alternatives for engagement party entertainment.

It's a good chance to give your wedding DJ a test run.

Entertainment can make or break a wedding, and there's no better way to see how your DJ and MC interact with a crowd than watching them in action. By hiring the same DJ company for your engagement party and your wedding, you can give your DJ a "test run" for your wedding reception to confirm your decision and make sure they're a good fit for your guests.

You might be able to save money.

If you haven't already booked your wedding DJ, consider hiring Hurricane Productions for both your engagement party and your wedding day. We love bundling services for our clients, and for a limited time, we're offering a discount to clients who book entertainment for multiple wedding events.

Thinking about a photo booth for your engagement party? We can help you save money there, too: When you book an entertainment package, you'll receive a discounted rate on our attended open-air or enclosed photo booths. A photo booth is a great way to keep your guests entertained when they're not on the dance floor -- plus, they'll have a fun souvenir of your engagement party to take home!

Make an Entrance to Remember With Custom Projection Mapping

The "grand entrance" is a highlight of any special event.

The DJ plays a song, often chosen by the guest of honor, while the emcee announces that person's arrival into the room. This moment serves as the official kickoff to a reception, so it's important to make it as memorable as possible.

At Olivia's Bat Mitzvah, the birthday girl certainly made an entrance her guests will never forget.

Hurricane Productions' Strato Doumanis designed and programmed a projection mapping display to run as Olivia entered the ballroom at The Addison Park in Aberdeen, NJ. The projection mapping was fully customized to work with the layout of the room, and synced up with the song "Olivia" by One Direction. In this video, you can see Olivia's custom Bat Mitzvah entrance in action:

Your event possibilities are endless with projection mapping.

Projection mapping combines cutting-edge software with digital animation skills to turn any physical space into a dazzling canvas. For a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, Quinceañera, or Sweet 16, this technology allows for a completely customized experience with details that are unique to your celebration.

A projection mapping display can incorporate words, colors, icons, images, and music that are special to your guest of honor. The result is a stunning visual and audio experience that will captivate your guests and keep them talking long after the event ends.

The Hurricane Productions team is no stranger to projection mapping. Our sister brand MediaCutlet has worked on several corporate and university projects that leverage this technology, including a curved wall display for an Audi dealership, a staircase display for a Rutgers University athletic awards banquet, and a 60-foot playable Pac-Man game projected onto the wall of a library.

We are always excited for opportunities to bring our projection mapping skills to our clients' private events. If you want to make your grand entrance something truly special with a custom projection mapping display, contact us today to discuss your vision.

Hurricane Productions also offers all-inclusive media and entertainment packages for any special occasion. Visit our pricing page or request a quote for more details.

Cannabis Wedding Trends to Incorporate Into Your NJ Wedding

Cannabis has been a hotly debated issue in recent years, and as more states vote to legalize recreational use, it's no surprise that so-called "weed weddings" are becoming hugely popular across the nation.

As of January 2019, more than half of the United States allows for medicinal marijuana use, and recreational use is fully legal in 10 states plus the District of Columbia. More states – including New Jersey – are expected to follow suit this year, so it's highly possible that some 2019 and 2020 weddings in the Garden State could incorporate cannabis.

In legal-use states, the annual Cannabis Wedding Expo has set the bar for industry vendors that want to help weed-friendly couples celebrate their big day. As more of the country says yes to recreational marijuana, here are a few cannabis wedding trends you're likely to see in the near future.

Cannabis Wedding Trends NJ Couples Can Jump On Now

Give a nod to cannabis on your big day with these subtle incorporations.

Cannabis Plant Bouquets and Décor

One of the easiest (and least controversial) ways to incorporate cannabis into your wedding is in your bridal bouquet, floral arrangements, and other décor. Get some fresh cuts of cannabis plant to add to your greenery for a bright, natural look. You can even add some cannabis leaves to your wedding cake to tie the theme together.

Wedding Party Gifts and Guest Favors

While you can't get high at your New Jersey wedding reception just yet, you can show your love of cannabis through your favors. Personalized pipes, match boxes, and even small packages of rolling paper are all thoughtful gifts for your cannabis-consuming guests. As an alternative, you might consider gifts that contain the non-intoxicating compound CBD, which can be found in cannabis lotions, oils, and edibles. CBD-infused products provide all the benefits of cannabis (including muscle relaxation and reduced anxiety) without the potent high you'll get from products containing THC.

Hemp Attire and Cannabis Leaf Accessories

For the cannabis-consuming couple who's looking for a much more understated approach, your best bet may be attire made of hemp (think dresses, ties, and anklets) or adding cannabis leaves to your wedding day accessories.

Trends for Future New Jersey Weddings

These next few trends might have to wait until New Jersey legalizes recreational cannabis use, but are good to keep in mind if your wedding happens post-legalization.

Infused Edibles

Cannabis-infused olive oil and butter are becoming more popular in the edibles market. If you're having your wedding reception catered by a third-party vendor, consider asking for an "infused" food station of dishes cooked or garnished with cannabis, such as flatbreads, pasta, and soup.

Cannabis Cocktails

Alcohol is already a staple at most wedding receptions, so why not add a little cannabis to the bar selection? Cannabis-infused mixers like tinctures, syrups, and creamers can make it the star of your signature wedding drink.

Open Cannabis Bars

Having an outdoor wedding reception? Consider hiring a "budtender" to serve 21+ guests a selection of gourmet cannabis strains, including low-dose edibles. Like a regular bartender, your budtender will be a knowledgeable professional who can help you and your guests achieve a safe, responsible high. If you or your guests are sensitive to THC, you can also consider strains that contain more CBD.

Dedicated Cannabis Consumption Areas

While some venues allow for cannabis use throughout the establishment, couples that can't find a cannabis-friendly location can set up a dedicated area near the reception for guests who want to discreetly consume or smoke during the wedding. Limos or party buses are also a viable option for this purpose.

Empower Your Teen to Plan Her Sweet 16 with Hurricane Productions

For many girls, there's no birthday party more special or memorable than her Sweet 16 or Quinceañera. It's a day dedicated entirely to her, with family and friends gathered to celebrate the young woman she's become.

Of course, before the big day, there's the lengthy and sometimes stressful Sweet 16 planning process. Because her parents are booking -- and paying for -- the event, the birthday girl may feel like she doesn't have as much say as she'd like in her celebration.

At the same time, planning a Sweet 16 or Quinceañera for your daughter can be overwhelming. Not only are there countless details to address, but you also have to make sure a crowd of teenagers and older family members will both have a great time.

When you book Hurricane Productions for your daughter's event, we empower her to plan her own party. She has her own vision of her birthday celebration and she knows what kind of entertainment she and her friends will enjoy. Here are just a few things we do to make it easy for you to delegate the Sweet 16 planning process to the guest of honor:

She can get insights from someone who's been through it.

It's important that your teen talks through her musical tastes and vision with her Sweet 16 DJ and MC. However, the DJ entertainment industry tends to skew male -- and while we love our guys, your daughter probably wants a fellow female perspective. Our General Manager, Chelsea Rutkowski, personally communicates with every client throughout their planning process. The birthday girl can reach out to Chelsea if she has any specific questions or just wants a second opinion about some details of her party.

She has a direct contact to her DJ and MC.

Chelsea facilitates direct connection between your daughter and her DJ and MC for her Sweet 16. At some DJ companies, you have an initial consultation with the manager, sign a contract, and don't talk with the actual DJ or MC until you finalize the playlist. We believe in having your birthday girl meet the team who will be working the DJ booth at her party.

Whether you book Robbie, Alvin, Nate, or one of our other talented entertainers, you and your teen will have a chance to speak with her DJ and MC to get a sense of their personalities and musical styles. Entertainment can make or break a party, so this direct communication helps ensure your team is a good fit for the crowd at your daughter's Sweet 16 or Quinceañera.

She can use our online planning portal to customize her day.

Our clients love how easy it is to use our online planning portal. Your teen can log in and select the musical genres she wants played at her party, set her "must play" and "do not play" lists, and designate special songs for her Father-Daughter dance and/or candle ceremony. Meanwhile, you can use the portal to manage your contract and payments in just a few clicks.

Let Hurricane Productions help you and your teenager through the Sweet 16 planning process. Check out our all-inclusive entertainment, photography, and videography packages for Sweet 16s and Quinceañeras, or contact us directly for a quote.

Wedding Trends: Cannabis, Brunches, Minimalism and More

Someone tagged you in this post because you're engaged and planning a 2019-2020 wedding. It's time to get to work : Set a date, pick a venue, book vendors, find your dress, etc.

Hurricane Productions helps hundreds of tri-state area couples celebrate their big day with DJ, Photo, and Video services. Our full-time staff recently compiled this list of wedding trends.

Cannabis

If you're reading this in New Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania: Cannabis isn't legal, yet. But its coming. And couples are drawing from cannabis wedding ideas in states where it is legal and anticipating that they can incorporate it in all aspects of their wedding day including decor, favors and dessert.

Engagement Brunches

Many couples host an engagement party to kick off their wedding activities well before the big day. If you’re not already planning a daytime wedding, consider celebrating your engagement with a late-morning fête featuring breakfast foods, endless mimosas, and a DJ. Your friends are sure to have a great time -- after all, millennials are known for their love of brunch!

Daytime Weddings

Evening receptions are still the standard, but more and more couples are opting for afternoon weddings. There are a few good reasons to consider a daytime reception. First, many venues offer incentives for off-peak events, like a discounted per-head rate or no minimum guest count. It also may be more convenient for your guests to head home in the early evening, rather than 11 p.m. or midnight. The biggest advantage? You'll be able to take advantage of more daylight hours for gorgeous, well-lit wedding photos and videos.

Sunday Weddings

While not necessarily a new trend, Sunday weddings are becoming more common as well. As with daytime events, hosting your wedding on a Sunday is considered an off-peak time for most venues, so you'll likely save some money on the reception. If you do opt for a Sunday wedding, set the time early enough so your guests aren't still in "recovery mode" come Monday morning!

Unique Locations

Forget the traditional banquet hall: Today's couples want a wedding venue that reflect their unique personalities and aesthetic. Wineries, barns, and historical villages are all on the list of locations today's NJ couples are considering for their celebrations. You can check out a few of these gorgeous NJ wedding backdrops we've captured if you need some inspiration.

Natural Greenery and Foliage

Floral arrangements make an appearance at just about every wedding, but many couples are opting for a more natural, outdoorsy feel in their wedding decor by incorporating lush greenery, tree branches, and grasses. According to Martha Stewart Weddings, pampas grass and wheat will be included in more wedding florals this year.

Minimalist Aesthetic

The price tag on a wedding can skyrocket quickly, so couples are saving their budget for the important stuff (e.g. the venue and vendors) and going minimal on their wedding details.  WeddingWire says the "bold, minimalist look" can be seen everywhere -- invitations, florals, table settings, cakes, and even wedding dresses. Many wedding experts say modern brides have been inspired by Meghan Markle's simple but sophisticated Givenchy Royal Wedding gown, leading them to embrace minimalist attire for their big day.

Fully Customized Lighting

LED Lighting was the "it" feature for the early part of the decade. But couples are customizing lighting for more than decor purposes. Ever try taking a photo on your phone at night? It's not so easy.  Lighting can enhance photo and video - not just the moments captured by professionals. Everyone has Instagram (yes, even Grandma). And lighting can make guests' DIY photos from their phones look better, too.  Hurricane Productions has always been ahead of the curve on this trend -- we offer tons of custom-designed lighting add-ons for your big day, including full venue uplighting and Name in Lights monogram displays.

The Gorgeous Garden State: Beautiful New Jersey Wedding Backdrops

When it comes to natural landscapes and scenery, it doesn't get much more diverse than New Jersey. We've got it all – beaches, mountains, forests, farmland, historical villages, urban skylines, and more.

No matter what type of aesthetic you're looking for, we guarantee you'll find it right here in NJ. Here are just a few examples of gorgeous New Jersey weddings to inspire your vision for your big day.

Venues like Crystal Point Yacht Club, Clarks Landing, and Jack Baker's Lobster Shanty offer fantastic waterfront views for romantic ceremonies and amazing photographs.

If this is the look you're going for, you'll love venues like Battleground Country Club, Blue Heron Pines Golf Club, and Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club.

They don't call us the Garden State for nothing. New Jersey boasts acres and acres of farmland, and along with it, we've got spacious farmhouses and barns that are perfect for wedding photos. Try a venue like The Hamilton Manor, Perona Farms, or Bear Brook Valley for that rustic, country aesthetic.

NJ Weddings at Historical Sites

If you want to be surrounded by a bit of American history on your big day, choose a venue like Waterloo Village, The Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury, or The Olde Mill Inn. New Jersey has a rich past, from its Native American roots, to the Revolutionary War, to the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Many historical venues in NJ date back to the 18th and 19th centuries, and offer a perfect blend of old world charm and modern amenities.

Real Wedding: Jessica & Matthew, Waterloo Village

NJ Weddings with the New York City Skyline

There's nothing quite like looking at the twinkling lights of a city skyline – and what skyline is more iconic than Manhattan's? When you get married at a venue like Liberty House, Maritime Parc, or The Water Witch Club, you and your guests will be able to enjoy breathtaking views of the city that never sleeps.

Lisa and Jaime - Battleground Country Club

Lisa and Jaime Mapou held their fall wedding at Battleground Country Club. This Manalapan, New Jersey event venue features a sprawling golf course, a private ceremony area, and breathtaking views from its newly renovated clubhouse.

Hurricane Productions helped the couple celebrate their big day with entertainment and media services, but it wasn't the first time they've worked with the bride: Founders Vincent Velasquez and Strato Doumanis DJed and emceed Lisa's Sweet 16 over a decade ago. They were delighted to reprise their roles at her wedding reception as part of our Request Package. The Mapous opted to add a ceremony sound system and an attended photo booth to their package.

The couple also hired a full-day videographer to capture raw footage of their wedding events. After their wedding, they reached out to request an edited version. Our creative team quickly worked to turn Brandon Perera's footage into a three to five-minute highlight video for the newlyweds.

While most Hurricane couples select one of our video editing packages during the consultation phase, we're also happy to work with clients like Lisa and Jaime on post-wedding edits if they have a more flexible budget after the big day, or simply change their mind about having a wedding film. Whether you request edits one month or one year later, we'll pull your raw footage from our secure cloud server and create your video.
