The "grand entrance" is a highlight of any special event.
The DJ plays a song, often chosen by the guest of honor, while the emcee announces that person's arrival into the room. This moment serves as the official kickoff to a reception, so it's important to make it as memorable as possible.
At Olivia's Bat Mitzvah, the birthday girl certainly made an entrance her guests will never forget.
Hurricane Productions' Strato Doumanis designed and programmed a projection mapping display to run as Olivia entered the ballroom at The Addison Park in Aberdeen, NJ. The projection mapping was fully customized to work with the layout of the room, and synced up with the song "Olivia" by One Direction. In this video, you can see Olivia's custom Bat Mitzvah entrance in action:
Your event possibilities are endless with projection mapping.
Projection mapping combines cutting-edge software with digital animation skills to turn any physical space into a dazzling canvas. For a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, Quinceañera, or Sweet 16, this technology allows for a completely customized experience with details that are unique to your celebration.
A projection mapping display can incorporate words, colors, icons, images, and music that are special to your guest of honor. The result is a stunning visual and audio experience that will captivate your guests and keep them talking long after the event ends.
The Hurricane Productions team is no stranger to projection mapping. Our sister brand MediaCutlet has worked on several corporate and university projects that leverage this technology, including a curved wall display for an Audi dealership, a staircase display for a Rutgers University athletic awards banquet, and a 60-foot playable Pac-Man game projected onto the wall of a library.
We are always excited for opportunities to bring our projection mapping skills to our clients' private events. If you want to make your grand entrance something truly special with a custom projection mapping display, contact us today to discuss your vision.
Hurricane Productions also offers all-inclusive media and entertainment packages for any special occasion. Visit our pricing page or request a quote for more details.
For many girls, there's no birthday party more special or memorable than her Sweet 16 or Quinceañera. It's a day dedicated entirely to her, with family and friends gathered to celebrate the young woman she's become.
Of course, before the big day, there's the lengthy and sometimes stressful Sweet 16 planning process. Because her parents are booking -- and paying for -- the event, the birthday girl may feel like she doesn't have as much say as she'd like in her celebration.
At the same time, planning a Sweet 16 or Quinceañera for your daughter can be overwhelming. Not only are there countless details to address, but you also have to make sure a crowd of teenagers and older family members will both have a great time.
When you book Hurricane Productions for your daughter's event, we empower her to plan her own party. She has her own vision of her birthday celebration and she knows what kind of entertainment she and her friends will enjoy. Here are just a few things we do to make it easy for you to delegate the Sweet 16 planning process to the guest of honor:
She can get insights from someone who's been through it.
It's important that your teen talks through her musical tastes and vision with her Sweet 16 DJ and MC. However, the DJ entertainment industry tends to skew male -- and while we love our guys, your daughter probably wants a fellow female perspective. Our General Manager, Chelsea Rutkowski, personally communicates with every client throughout their planning process. The birthday girl can reach out to Chelsea if she has any specific questions or just wants a second opinion about some details of her party.
She has a direct contact to her DJ and MC.
Chelsea facilitates direct connection between your daughter and her DJ and MC for her Sweet 16. At some DJ companies, you have an initial consultation with the manager, sign a contract, and don't talk with the actual DJ or MC until you finalize the playlist. We believe in having your birthday girl meet the team who will be working the DJ booth at her party.
Whether you book Robbie, Alvin, Nate, or one of our other talented entertainers, you and your teen will have a chance to speak with her DJ and MC to get a sense of their personalities and musical styles. Entertainment can make or break a party, so this direct communication helps ensure your team is a good fit for the crowd at your daughter's Sweet 16 or Quinceañera.
She can use our online planning portal to customize her day.
Our clients love how easy it is to use our online planning portal. Your teen can log in and select the musical genres she wants played at her party, set her "must play" and "do not play" lists, and designate special songs for her Father-Daughter dance and/or candle ceremony. Meanwhile, you can use the portal to manage your contract and payments in just a few clicks.
Let Hurricane Productions help you and your teenager through the Sweet 16 planning process. Check out our all-inclusive entertainment, photography, and videography packages for Sweet 16s and Quinceañeras, or contact us directly for a quote.
The playful yet sophisticated designs of the late Kate Spade are beloved by women across the world.
Many American girls even considered buying a Kate Spade handbag as a “coming-of-age ritual,” a “status symbol,” and a “token of adulthood.”
In keeping with this idea, Brianna chose to make Spade’s designs the center of her themed Sweet 16 celebration. Her friends and family gathered at The Imperia in Somerset, New Jersey for an evening of food, fun, dancing, and the inspiring ethos of Kate Spade.
Before her reception, Brianna posed for formal portraits taken by Hurricane Productions photographer Corynn Egreczky. The birthday girl wore a pastel pink embroidered ballgown, while much of her family and Court donned formal black and gray attire.
Later in the evening, Brianna changed into a gold embroidered mermaid-style dress to finish out her celebration.
Brianna and her family decked out The Imperia’s Cristal Ballroom in Spade’s classic design colors: black, white, and gold with splashes of pink. Hurricane Productions created a custom Snapchat geofilter, LED TV-displayed animations, and a Name in Lights projection – complete with a spade icon – as part of Brianna’s Photo & Entertainment package. The Name in Lights design was also used on custom t-shirts worn by Brianna’s Court.
Brianna’s Sweet 16 entertainment team included DJ Nate Hawley and emcee Robert Padovano. When guests weren’t dancing under the intelligent spotlighting, uplighting, and club-like dry ice cannon, they were using the attended open air photo booth to create memories of their own.
Want Hurricane Productions to help you celebrate your next special event?
It was a night to remember for Raissa, her friends, and her family, some of whom traveled all the way from the Philippines to celebrate her 16th birthday.
The Colonnade Room of The Gran Centurions, an elegant Union County event venue in Clark, New Jersey, was transformed into a pastel paradise for this Sweet 16.
Raissa included her mint green and pink floral theme in all the details and decor of her celebration. Pink rose string lights and flower pom-poms adorned the tables. The birthday girl, her family, and her Court dressed to match the color scheme. There was even a tree with teardrop tea light ornaments, which Raissa later used in her unique candle lighting ceremony.
In Filipino families, young women traditionally celebrate their “debut” into adulthood at age 18.
The birthday girl performs a choreographed dance with her hand-selected Court. Then she waltzes with 18 special males in her life, each of whom gives her a single rose. Raissa and her family adapted this tradition with a rose ceremony, which included her father and grandfather.
Hurricane Productions helped set the mood for this special event with intelligent spotlighting, colored uplighting, a photo montage and custom animations displayed on LED TV screens, and a Name in Lights design projected on the wall.
At the elegant Costa del Sol in Union, New Jersey, Gabriela celebrated a very special birthday surrounded by many friends and family members. Her red-and-gold, bilingual Sweet 16 was filled with food, fun, and culture. Hurricane Productions was there every step of the way to make sure her evening went off without a hitch.
Gabriela came to us for an English and Spanish-speaking entertainer. She wanted someone who could make her Bolivian and Columbian relatives feel as welcome as her local friends and family. She found this in our emcee Ralphael. Gabriela's entertainment team also included DJ Alvin Gay, whose Cuban family roots and musical background made him a perfect fit for this event.
With her Photo and Entertainment package, Gabriela also received a photographer, a photo booth, and lighting by Director of Operations, Nick Nittoli. As an add-on service, Hurricane Productions created a photo montage set to music, and played it live during the event.
Before the party started, the birthday girl posed for outdoor portraits with her family, taken by our photographer Jasear Thompson. Gabriela looked stunning in her rhinestone-embroidered red ballgown and diamond tiara fit for a queen. Costa del Sol's beautiful landscaping, water fountain, and rock garden provided the perfect backdrop.
Gabriela kicked off her celebration by honoring her heritage. She wowed her guests when she performed traditional Bolivian and Columbian dances with different family members. Ralphael and Alvin then welcomed guests onto the dance floor, and kept Gabriela's friends and family dancing throughout the night.
What do you do when you're at a special event? You take pictures and share them on social media, of course.
For teens and young adults attending Sweet 16 and Quinceañera celebrations, this often means posting pictures and videos on Snapchat throughout the evening. Now, imagine how much more personal and special those Snaps would be with a "branded" geofilter designed just for the party.
As part of our Sweet 16 Social Package and higher, Hurricane Productions creates a customized Snapchat geofilter for guests to use during the event. These filters, which are typically tailored to fit the theme and color scheme, create a fun and unique way for friends and family to share their experiences of your celebration.
Here are a few of our favorite designs from past Sweet 16s and Quinceañeras to inspire a custom Snapchat geofilter for your event.
Sparkle and Shine
This geofilter put the "jewel" in Julianna, with her name stylized to match the stones on her tiara and gown.
Meet Me In Paris
For Jennifer's Paris-themed Sweet 16, the Eiffel Tower and a romantic Paris street sign made the perfect filter for her guests' Snaps.
The City (and Party) That Never Sleeps
Sydney's Quinceañera featured a geofilter decked out with the Manhattan skyline, complete with a glowing full moon and the Statue of Liberty.
Inspired by luxury jewelry brand Tiffany & Co., Claudia's celebration featured a Snapchat geofilter designed to mimic the company's iconic "Tiffany Blue" box with white ribbon.
Check out more of our Snapchat filters in action:
In addition to your custom Sweet 16 or Quinceañera geofilter, our Social Package also includes multi-screen displays around your dance floor, streaming live Instagram photos using your hashtag and personalized graphics created by our design team.

A Sweet 16 theme can transform the standard ballroom at your event venue into a magical backdrop for a unique and unforgettable celebration. It sets the tone and ambience for the evening, and can touch every element of your event, from your attire and décor to the cake and favors.
While many birthday girls choose a special color as their theme, some go all out and incorporate world cities, pop culture, or their heritage into their party. If you're looking for Sweet 16 theme inspiration, look no further than these recent Hurricane Productions events:
Masquerade Sweet 16
Masquerade balls have been popular for centuries, and have long been associated with wealth, class, elegance, and mystique. Melanie’s masquerade celebration was a modern Sweet 16 with elements of the traditional quinceañera. The classic masquerade mask, which some of the guests wore during the evening, was incorporated into the birthday girl’s custom Name in Lights display, designed by Hurricane Productions.
Beauty and the Beast Sweet 16
From her Belle-inspired ballgown, to her birthday cake topped with a Belle-and-Beast silhouette topper, Sabrina Ann's Sweet 16 at Ria Mar was all about Disney's "Beauty and the Beast." A blue and gold color scheme, red rose décor, and a Disney-style custom Name in Lights and Snapchat filter from Hurricane Productions tied Sabrina Ann's theme together.
Indian-Inspired Elephant Sweet 16
At Samantha's Sweet 16, held at The Excelsior, the birthday girl highlighted her favorite symbol of good luck and fortune: an elephant with an upward-facing trunk. Inspired by the mythology behind the elephant, Samantha celebrated Indian culture at her event with traditional sarees and henna body art. Hurricane Productions also created a custom animation based on her theme.
Great Gatsby Sweet 16
New York in the 1920s was all about glitz and glamour, and what better way to celebrate that era's opulence than with a "Great Gatsby"-themed Sweet 16? For Nicolette's celebration, Brooklyn's Gargiulo's Restaurant was decked out in black, silver, and gold, while the birthday girl stood out in her gorgeous red ballgown. With a sophisticated cake and custom animation to match the color scheme, Nicolette's evening truly brought this classic American novel to life.
Princess-Themed Sweet 16
If you can't choose just one favorite princess, why not celebrate with them all? Juliana's Sweet 16 at Bridgewater Manor celebrated all of the birthday girl's favorite fictional royalty, from her Cinderella-carriage centerpieces and castle-topped cake, to her Tinkerbell-inspired ballgown and shoes. Aside from her castle-and-tiara custom animation, the most magical part of Juliana's event was an outdoor paper lantern send-off.

What you may not know is that our go-to DJ for many of these events is also a Scarlet Knight himself. In 2014, Nathan "Nate Tunes" Hawley was a sophomore studying Information Technology and Informatics at the State University when he began working for Hurricane Productions as a student DJ. Today, he is known across campus for spinning tunes at a variety of Rutgers Athletic events, including football games (he's the "Official DJ of Rutgers Football"), wrestling matches, and gymnastics meets.
But Nate isn't just a sports DJ – this talented young web developer and electronic musician also knows how to start a party. Raised on classic house vinyl, Nate has brought his multi-genre musical knowledge to many Rutgers Student Affairs events, as well as the annual Rutgers University Dance Marathon and Club Alex events. On the weekends, Nate frequently teams up with Emcee Robert Padovano to DJ many Hurricane Productions private events.

Singing. Dancing. Comedic skits. It's not a variety show; it was Keerthana's Sweet 16!
It was a spectacular celebration of family, music, and culture for Keerthana's birthday at the prestigious Royce Brook Golf Club in Hillsborough Township, NJ.
Several of Keerthana's family and friends prepared musical numbers and choreographed dances to entertain guests throughout the evening. The lineup included contemporary pop songs, traditional Bollywood-style dances, a father-daughter musical duet, and a routine by Keerthana and her court. It's easy to see where Keerthana, who represented New Jersey in the National American Miss pageant, inherited her talents.
Keerthana herself also gave a special solo performance of Adele's "When We Were Young."
Hurricane Productions set up gorgeous lighting effects to match Keerthana's pink and purple theme setting the stage for the songs and dances. MC Robert Padovano set the pace for the event, introducing important individuals and performances, while Nate Hawley provided additional entertainment as the evening's DJ.
Later in the night, one of the performers, Swarali, even taught the crowd a few dance moves!
Photographer Corynn Egresczky and videographer Markus Robinson were there to document and preserve the event for the Family. Corynn took portraits of the birthday girl with her family and friends with Royce Brook's gorgeous grounds as the backdrop, snapped photos of Keerthana's elegant décor, and captured incredible motion shots of the live performances.
Markus recorded highlights from the evening – including the performances, touching speeches from Keerthana's family, and the candle ceremony – and edited them together into a two-hour digital keepsake.

This NJ Sweet 16 transformed The Old Tappan Manor into a pink and gold paradise as Rachel's family and friends gathered in honor of the birthday girl.
Rachel and her family had a clear vision for their event.
They wanted an elegant look with an over the top party atmosphere. Rachel, her court and her family wowed guests with several choreographed dances throughout the evening.
By choosing a package that included Spotlighting and Dance floor lighting, Director of Operations, Nick Nittoli was able to bring the ballroom to life and added a professional feel to her performance. The package also included a custom "Name in Lights" display, and personalized animations displayed on two screens to add ambiance to the room.
Rachel and her family also chose to have a videographer and photographer to capture the whole event. Hurricane Productions media professionals were there throughout the event to capture portraits, candid shots, and video of Rachel's party taking advantage of the Old Tappan Manor's gorgeous grounds and incorporated the facility's gazebo, landscaping, and rock waterfall into the backdrop of Rachel's photos.
When they weren't playing music for the impressive routines, DJ Nate Hawley and MC Robert Padovano had everyone up and on the dance floor giving the family the party atmosphere the family wanted.
Hurricane Productions helped bring Juliana's celebration to life with entertainment, lighting, photography, and videography. Director of Operations, Nick Nittoli set the ballroom aglow with cyan uplighting, twin totem lighting, and animated screen graphics to match the princess theme on large LED TVs.
MC Robert Padovano kept Juliana's friends and family on the dance floor, while Hurricane's media team captured portraits, candid shots and filmed moments throughout the night.
What made Juliana's Sweet 16 particularly magical was the lantern send-off at the end of the night.
The birthday girl and her guests went outside to light paper lanterns and released them into the night sky.
Although "The Great Gatsby" took place on Long Island, Nicolette Torani and her family brought F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel to life in Brooklyn, New York.
On a warm summer evening, Nicolette celebrated her Great Gatsby-themed Sweet 16 at Garguilo's Restaurant with the help of Hurricane Productions.
From the décor and dress to the cake, this event was all about classic 1920s flair but with a modern twist. Hurricane photographers captured portraits of Nicolette, her family, and her court – who were dressed in sleek, era-appropriate black, gold, and silver outfits – as well as solo shots of the birthday girl under Garguilo's gorgeous outdoor gazebo.
MC Robert Padovano lead the entertainment team, keeping her friends and family on the dance floor throughout the night. To match Nicolette's elegant red ballgown, lighting tech Nick Nittoli set up red and amber full ballroom uplighting, as well as twin totem uplighting and two 42" screens displaying a custom animation based on the event's theme.

Ariyana's family chartered Cornucopia Cruise Line's Destiny yacht and invited her friends and relatives to set sail from Hoboken's 14th Street Pier and celebrate her special day.
Blue was the color of the evening, as Ariyana's two elegant dresses, cake, décor accents, and full ballroom uplighting all reflected the hues in the water. Hurricane Productions videographer Markus Robinson filmed the highlights of Ariyana's cruise, while photographers captured fun candids on the dance floor, as well as formal shots with the breathtaking New York City skyline and the Statue of Liberty as the backdrop.
DJ Nate Hawley and MC Robert Padovano got the party started and provided entertainment throughout the entire event. Guests of all ages danced the night away to the favorite tunes of Ariyana and her family. Hurricane's lighting director Nick Nittoli arranged for Twin Totem lighting, uplighting, and a "Name in Lights" display to set the tone for the celebration, while a custom photo montage of the guest of honor played during dinner. Ariyana's friends and family were also able to enjoy a fun open-air photo booth to create some memories of their own.
The Excelsior in Saddlebrook, NJ was transformed into an Indian-inspired wonderland for Samantha's celebration.
Samantha donned an elegant red and gold saree and beautiful henna body art for her special day. The ladies in her court, who also wore traditional sarees, were dressed in gold, blue and purple, while the rest of Samantha's guests wore black, creating a visually stunning color contrast on the dance floor.
In ancient folklore and Indian mythology, an elephant with its trunk facing up signifies good luck and fortune. This symbolic elephant, a favorite of high schooler Samantha Demayo, became the focal point of the décor when she celebrated her Sweet 16.
Hurricane Productions made sure that every aspect of the evening went off without a hitch. DJ Alvin and MC Robert Padovano kept everyone on their feet, while Hurricane photographers captured portraits and candid shots of the guest of honor with her friends and family.
The red full ballroom uplighting and twin totem lights perfectly complemented Samantha's red, white and gold color scheme. Samantha also opted for a custom animation based on her theme, which was displayed on 42" TV screens for her guests to enjoy.
It was a tale as old as time: Sabrina Ann celebrated her Sweet 16 with a magical celebration, surrounded by her family and closest friends.
Hosted by the Ria Mar in South River, NJ, Sabrina Ann's Beauty and the Beast-themed affair featured Entertainment, Lighting, Social Media Integration and Photography provided by Hurricane Productions. Lighting director Nick Nittoli set the mood with spotlighting and beautiful blue full-ballroom uplighting, which perfectly complemented the blue and gold color scheme.
Sabrina Ann's court gathered under her Disney-style name in lights for professional photos by Mike Slagter, while her guests enjoyed their own photo fun with a customized Snapchat filter and an open-air, white backdrop photo booth. Two 42"-screen TVs prominently displayed Sabrina Ann's custom name design on the dance floor, where MC Robert Padovano and DJ Nate Hawley kept the birthday girl's guests dancing through the evening.
Every event you're about to watch is a staple of the Hurricane Productions portfolio. Although we also entertain small-scale events like Sweet 16s and Weddings, these larger scale events are important to the company and part of the fabric of New Jersey.
All of this content - videos included - are homemade by our staff.
1. Audi Grand Opening
From soup to nuts, everything you see in this video is provided in coordination with Hurricane Productions: Lighting, Audio, Projection, Production. We transformed this dealership to what you see in this video.
2. AARA Tradeshow
Since 2012, Hurricane is an integral part of AARA's annual tradeshow hosted in Somerset, NJ and Edison, NJ on rotating years. We provide sound, lighting and coordinate the company's branding and social media efforts.
3. Dance Marathon
Hurricane started within the DM organization a decade ago when the event was barely raising over $100,000 for Embrace Kids Foundation. In the last decade, the teams at Hurricane and Dance Marathon work in concert, year-round, to create the largest student-run philanthropic event in the state. This year, the event is projected raised over one million dollars.
4. The Yard: Game Watch
When it comes to community events at The Yard, DEVCO hires MediaCutlet to consult on the who, what, when. But when it comes the how: Hurricane executes the events from the nuts and bolts end of things: Production, music, etc. It's the perfect marriage of how both brands exist under one roof.
5. Sweet 16s
It may not seem like a lot, but Sweet 16s collectively represent a $100K brand within Hurricane. Sweet 16s give us the ability to train interns, young talent - photo, video, DJs, technicians - and eventually graduate them to larger scale events like the other four in this post. Sweet 16s also gives Hurricane access to families and teenagers in the state, turning them into clients on our other services. In fact, our way into the AARA Tradeshow came by way of a Sweet 16 for the director's daughter.
The Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club hosted Catherine's Sixties-themed Sweet 16. Spring Lake Bath and Tennis is an upscale venue just a block away from the beach. Catherine attends Red Bank Catholic so SLB&T is the ideal location in terms of travel for her friends and family.
Lighting provided by Hurricane Productions made all of Catherine's Sixties-themed decorations pop as the pink uplighting accented the ballroom. To further enhance her evening, Catherine selected a custom 'Name in Lights' design. Her LED Screens featured a custom animation with her name in Sixties-inspired font and design. The screens streamed Instagram photos in real-time. Hurricane also created a Snapchat filter for Catherine and her friends to use in real-time during the party.
The Snapchat feature is an increasingly popular enhancement for teen events. Check out these stats:
MC Robbie Padovano and DJ Nate Hawley entertained Catherine's Sweet 16.
Catherine and her family booked the 'Media package' from Hurricane Productions. It includes Entertainment, Lighting, Social Media Integration, Photography, and a Photobooth.
This list usually stands as our annual “Top 25 Live Events.” Although that feature is wildly popular amongst our private event clients, we felt like it was time to move away from that format.
Hurricane continues to evolve and the question always arises: What else does your company do?
This list is a true snapshot of who we are, what we do and where we are heading in 2015:
8. Vincent and Strato launch Hurricane Innovation LLC, offer social media consulting to small and mid-sized businesses.
Starting another business isn't just about creating a website or coming up with a name. We needed clients. We needed a vision. So with the help of some of our existing web clients, Rutgers University and the addition of Journal Multimedia, Caesars Entertainment, and The Olde Mill Inn, we evolved into a social media and video consulting firm.
And we have our former General Manager, Julia Crimi, to thank for making sure that Hurricane Productions operated at full strength while we jumped into our new endeavor.
7. We get more social (and accessible) to our clients with #HurricaneSocial
Every company should do this: Let your employees be themselves ... and share it on all forms of social media.
With the help of a company-wide hashtag, we implemented a way to aggregate all of this content from each popular social media platform and display it in real-time.

Claudia and her family chose TR Hotel and the Coral Ballroom for their convenient location and seemingly endless amenities. They chose Hurricane Productions for their Sweet 16 expertise and penchant for fun.
The team at Hurricane also brought her Hollywood Award Show Sweet 16 theme to life.
For her star-studded TR Hotel Sweet 16, Claudia went all out with full-room uplighting, dynamic twin totem club lighting, personalized graphics displayed on HDTV screens, and impeccable entertainment from two of Hurricane Productions' A-list talents. Not to mention a very special celebrity appearance from the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson (impersonator).
Leading Claudia's friends and family in dance at her star-studded Sweet 16 was none other than our own superstar MC Robbie Padovano, with DJ extraordinaire Bayshawn 'B-Nice' Wells at his side, pumping out the jams.
